Ways Movement And Mindfulness Can Reduce Stress In Children

It’s difficult to find a time to halt and just be in today’s hectic and over-scheduled world.

It’s the sense we get when we get at our destination and realize we didn’t pay attention to how we got there, or the stress of job and raising a family—all of which may make us feel like we’re on high alert.

Our children are no exception, as they face stress from schoolwork, extracurricular activities, and peer interactions, bullying and online bullying and mean friends. As gym and recess time get fewer, school days are becoming longer (or removed completely). Not only that, but with screen time, social media, and cyberbullying, children are growing up in a different world than we did.

Many childrens experience over-arousal of the nervous system and a build-up of stress hormones like adrenaline and cortisol as a result of these stresses.

Without the capacity to metabolize these hormones, stress may manifest itself in a variety of ways, including anxiety, acting out, and inattention, to name a few.

So, what can we do to assist?

Because movement is the quickest method for these hormones to be processed, getting our kids moving will help them feel less stressed and even use the Diathesis Stress Model. Furthermore, mindfulness practice enables childrens to control their emotions, cope with challenges and take the pause that is so necessary for our over-stimulated, screen-filled environment.

Create daily deep breathing practise: We’ve all advised our kids to take a deep breath to relax. The only issue is that we were almost certainly too late. Developing a regular practice allows our children to acquire these vital skills when they are calm, so they can use them when they are dealing with more intense emotions. It could be a breathing exercise in the morning to help you wake up or before night to help you relax—heart and belly breathing are one of my favourites to teach. Family Yoga

Yoga for the whole family: Yoga has been found to lower stress, increase attention, and boost brain functioning to aid learning. It could be a pleasant way to unite as a family while also improving physical and emotional wellness, especially for moms who are dealing with burnout. With your childrens, try out a few postures. From Kids Yoga Stories, here’s one of my favourite sequences, “Emotions Yoga.” Yoga is a great way to be a playful parent and can help keep you from losing your temper with your kids. It also helps with emotional regulation and self-regulation as well, and don’t forget self-discipline too.

Of course, I’m referring to yoga. It’s a tried-and-true family favourite, and it’s the ideal way to get everyone together for some memorable fun.

There’s an ancient proverb that goes, “The family that prays together, stays together.” When you combine yoga with the flow, it works in the same manner. Yoga’s advantages, whether via prayer or practice, are likely to build relationships and bring everyone closer together.

So, what are some of the ways that family yoga may help (besides reducing stress in kids?)

Body Image

Poor examples in the mainstream and on social media have left today’s adolescents with a completely twisted sense of body positivity. The studio, on the other hand, is a place where individuals of all ages, shapes, sizes, and backgrounds come together to learn about yoga’s therapeutic powers. Self-acceptance is praised and praised. A competent yoga instructor will keep reminding (ego state) students of this.

Healthy Habits

A family’s regular yoga practice is more than just a good habit. Yoga has been found to stimulate the development of more positive behaviours, such as extra exercise routines and healthy eating patterns. It may even have an impact on the sorts of connections we cultivate in our life.

Strengthens Bonds

Relatives learn how to support one another physically and emotionally via group and couple yoga poses and sharing activities. As a consequence, trust is established, and relationships between parents and children, as well as siblings, are strengthened and bonds are formed.

Opens Communication

Yoga may assist us in tuning into our inner space and honouring our authentic voice. Flowing together as a family will naturally start a conversation, giving everyone something to talk about. Helps Manage Emotions

Imagine childrens learning to sit in silence for ten minutes, acquiring control over their anger or anxiety via the use of beath. This is a talent that would be really useful. Some schools have incorporated yoga and meditation sessions into their educational curriculum as a result of this advantage.

As you can see, there are a lot of benefits to doing family yoga! The great thing about it is that it allows you to immerse your family in an atmosphere that supports all of the qualities you want to instil in them. At initially, some work could be required to gather everyone and get them on board with the plan, but momentum will gradually build. Soon, everyone will be ecstatic to have the opportunity to join breath and body as a team!

Practice Mindfulness

Pick (at least) one mindful activity to engage in: We all have a tendency to multitask, and sometimes taking a break means focusing on just one item at a time. Pick one thing to do (like showering, brushing teeth, putting on clothes or eating a meal). Use all five of your senses to completely engage in that activity with your child for a week. Feel your body’s feelings and pay attention to when your mind drifts to previous or future ideas. We all have wandering minds, but it’s a healthy habit to be aware of them and bring them back to the present. When we practice mindfulness we can take setbacks and turn them into learning opportunities easier.

Whether or not a child is anxious, mindfulness will enhance their behaviour and emotional well-being.

Large institutions and corporations are beginning to take action as a result of the research’s strength and significance. Top businesses are behaviouring mindfulness training, and schools all around the world are launching initiatives to bring mindfulness exercises to children.

The kicker is that because their minds and bodies are still developing, the effectiveness of mindfulness with children is much stronger!

Here are a few of the incredible ways mindfulness may help a childrens behaviour and mental well-being.

Acceptance of the present moment, as it is, is fundamental to mindfulness practise. The avoidance and rejection of our felt emotions is at the root of most of the anxiety and despair we feel as humans.

It’s all too simple to prevent your child from expressing their strong emotions (because it’s uncomfortable! ), yet this is the most common error parents make when developing emotionally aware children.

Feelings, both positive and negative, are universal and a sign of a mentally healthy person! Mindfulness exercises help your child to accept and accept their feelings and experiences in the present now without passing judgement.

Relieve Childhood Stress

Choose activities based on your knowledge of your child. It’s critical that these methods are implemented in enjoyable ways to involve our children in the process of learning to connect with themselves and the world around them.
