the joy of being a mother (10 Reasons)
You Have A Chance To Raise Good Humans
Your number one job as a parent is to make a conscious effort to raise your little ones to be a good human who contributes to society in a positive way.
This is the hardest thing in the world to do, and you’ll go through so much heartache, and make many mistakes during this time of raising your children, but in the end, when all is said and done and the kids are older, you’ll be pretty darn proud of yourself and how you conquered this motherhood thing.
Even during the growing-up stages of childhood, you’ll come across moments of pride that leave you in tears.
It is really joyful to know you’re doing the right thing and raising a good little person who will one day be a wonderful and welcome addition to the world.
Motherhood: All love begins and ends there.—Robert Browning
Motivation To Be A Better Person
When you have children, you usually automatically become a better person due to becoming selfless and motivated to make the little human you made happy and healthy. Motherhood gives me the best feeling, does it do the same for you?
You learn better habits and become more organized, simply because you have to. These common challenges that you’ll battle daily are just learning curves that you will tackle in time.
You’ll make many mistakes in your motherhood journey, that’s for sure, but learning through them and being better next time, helps you grow as a human being.
Your patience is tested on a daily and you’ll need to learn how to handle yourself and learn to be more patient as the days go on. The more children you have, the more patience you’ll have, from my experience.
As a mother, you’ll learn to be empathetic to your children’s feelings and you’ll be able to see the world from a children’s perspective.
You begin to be a good role model for your sponge, I mean child, because you know that your little joys will begin to copy you in everything you do, so you have to be on your best behavior at all times.
Children really do motivate you to become a better person and that is a joy of being mom.
[Motherhood is] the biggest gamble in the world. It is the glorious life force. It’s huge and scary—it’s an act of infinite optimism.”—Gilda Radner
Laughter And Silliness Are Daily Occurrences
Let’s face it, kids are hilarious. There is never a dull moment with kids around and a household with children is lively, noisy and silly. I’m sure you have your very own relatable experiences.
All that noise is a wonderful reminder that you have a house full of joy.
Kids really do say the darndest things and can lighten and brighten up your day with just a few words.
The things kids say always surprise me as a mother, and I often underestimate how wise they are. They can open up my eyes to a new perspective within moments and just a simple sentence.
Do you keep a “things my kids say” notepad on your phone just so you can refer back to those funny days when your kids said whatever was on their mind? If you don’t do that, start today! You won’t regret it, it’s the best thing.
Your kids will crack you up from the moment they are babies which really brings joy into motherhood early in the parenting journey.
This is a great book if you want to laugh about parenthood.
You’re Never Really Alone
While never being able to be alone can seem like a terrible thing, especially for women who like to have their space, it is really nice to always have someone there with you.
It is lovely to be able to have someone to talk to, even if it’s a baby and you haven’t seen your friends in what feels like forever.
Your spouse could be at work and you may not get time to leave the house on a daily basis, which leaves your darling littles to be your companions.
It’s actually lovely talking to your kids, you can really get to know them by spending that quality time together and chatting about anything and everything.
Here are some questions to get to know your children’s heart if you need some conversation starters.
“Having kids—the responsibility of rearing good, kind, ethical, responsible human beings—is the biggest job anyone can embark on.”—Maria Shriver
Kids Love You (No Matter How Many Times You Yelled That Day)
You’ll always be your own hardest critic and there will be days where you feel like the worst mother in the world because you yelled, or did the “wrong thing.” That mom guilt is real and it hits hard in every stage of motherhood.
But no matter how badly you judge yourself, your kids will always love you.
Your children look up to you and value everything you say and do. Unless you’re a terrible human and you don’t pay any attention to your children and leave them alone at home while you go drinking with your friends…then you’re probably doing a heck of a great job in your new role.
Your kids will always be your number one fans, and they will forgive you if you yell or make a rash decision, as long as you admit your mistake and talk to them about it.
“You’re always going to wonder if you’re doing things wrong, but that’s what it means to be a mom, to care so much about someone else that you just want to be as perfect as possible.” —Naya Rivera
This is a great book to help you stop yelling.
Improve Communication Between Spouses
Raising children is not easy, and if making decisions with your spouse can be a challenge.
While some decisions could be easy enough and have both parents on the same side of the argument, others are not so easy to get through.
You’ll get to know your spouse’s values much better when you have children and thus creating a stronger bond with your partner.
Keeping the line of communication open with your spouse is so important, and will make this whole parenting thing a lot less challenging.
“To describe my mother would be to write about a hurricane in its perfect power. Or the climbing, falling colors of a rainbow.” —Maya Angelou
Routines Are Now Life
Routines are joyful, aren’t they?!
Well to me they are, they make the whole chaos of motherhood a lot more manageable.
Having routines in our life has made things easier and has made my children happier too. When children know what to expect and when, they become more comfortable with their surroundings, leading to fewer tantrums and more joy for everyone.
It’s a good idea to have a solid bedtime routine, a morning routine, and an after-school routine too to make life that much more organized and enjoyable.
We have an epic summer schedule too which helps us keep the chaos to a minimum when there is no school to balance the crazy.

You’re Stronger Than You Ever Knew
Motherhood makes you emotionally and physically stronger.
Did you know that your body could do the things it does during childbirth? Heck, I didn’t! It was all such a huge surprise to me. Women have a huge pain tolerance.
But beyond physical strength, you’ll endure a wide range of emotions in every stage of parenting. Every single day in your parenting journey will be a bowl of emotions and you’ll be able to endure it all.
You’ll learn to rise to any occasion and protect your dear child from any situation because you have to!
“Mothers and their children are in a category all their own. There’s no bond so strong in the entire world. No love so instantaneous and forgiving.” —Gail Tsukiyama
You Have A New Outlook On Your Upbringing
Parenting is so tough and as a child, you totally judge your parents on the decisions they made while raising you. But once you have kids of your own you’ll be able to see some situations more clearly and realize the reasons that your parents did what they did.
This can make you feel more compassion for your own parents and make you a lot more grateful for your childhood and upbringing.
You’ll realize how thankful you are for your parents when your children start doing the things you used to do and having to endure those difficult moments yourself.
“I believe the choice to become a mother is the choice to become one of the greatest spiritual teachers there is.” —Oprah Winfrey
Always Learning New Things
Motherhood will likely throw you for a loop, sometimes multiple times a day.
But with all these different situations that you’re facing, you’re learning all sorts of new things.
Sometimes those things can be exciting, scary or confusing, but the thing is, you’re learning and growing on a daily basis.
Motherhood is not an easy feat, and you’ll be learning from the moment of birth to the day your kids move out of the house (and beyond.)
“A mother’s happiness is like a beacon, lighting up the future but reflected also on the past in the guise of fond memories.” —Honore de Balzac

How To Find The Joy In Motherhood
When was the last time you talked to your kids between refereeing, cooking supper, and managing the chaos? It’s difficult to feel like we’re doing a good job when we don’t spend time with our loved ones.
If you don’t like playing on the ground, try reading to them, tickling them, singing songs, turning on the radio, or dancing. The point is to connect.
Sometimes all it takes is a change of scenery to de-stress and get back to appreciating your life. If you can’t get outside, go to a friend’s or your mother’s house, or even the mall playground.
Since the 1960s, reframing has been used as cognitive therapy. Essentially, it entails altering your perspective on a circumstance.
Changing your mentality can be as simple as focusing on what you do have rather than all of the things that aren’t functioning.
But this isn’t something you should work on right now. Taking the time each day to focus on the positive aspects of your life is a crucial part of living a happy existence. And ps. Stop comparing yourself with internet moms!

The advantages, such as unconditional love from your children, reliving childhood memories, and that satisfying feeling you get when you teach them new things, far outweigh the disadvantages. Resilience in the Face of Challenges
Motherhood isn’t just about the joyful moments; it’s also about facing challenges head-on and becoming more resilient. Mothers often find themselves dealing with sleep deprivation during those first few months after their baby girl arrives. Balancing work, school assignments, and family members can be tough, especially for first-time moms.

Reasons Motherhood Is Joyful Bottom Line
While having children is super joyful, it can also be very overwhelming, and well it is really easy to lose yourself in the hustle and bustle that is mom life.
If you leave the house, it’s constant car seat buckling, snack throwing, and making sure kids aren’t running wild in parking lots and across the road.
Then there are all the potty training mishaps, the diaper blowouts and all the butt wiping that is never-ending and leaves us, moms, with sleepless nights and anxiety.
If you have multiple children, it could get harder and harder to remember who you were before you had your babies, and that can leave a mom feeling lost, lonely and confused.
The good news is, yes you will be able to find yourself again after children, it may just take a little time.
The great thing is, motherhood reaches many lessons and joyful experiences, and who you were will never be the same, but you will be able to find your passions once more.
