Baby Registry Tips: What Not To Put On It

Here’s a guide to help you prioritize your baby registry items:

Definitely Do Not Add

Wipe Warmer While a wipe warmer sounds appealing, it’s often unnecessary. Babies can adapt to room-temperature wipes, and the warmer might dry out the wipes or become a source of bacteria. If you must have one, this one is good.

Crib Bumpers Crib bumpers pose a significant safety risk and are not recommended by pediatricians. They can lead to suffocation or entrapment, so it’s best to avoid them altogether. If you do add these, I recommend the mesh ones.

Pillow & Crib Blankets Similar to crib bumpers, pillows and crib blankets can be hazardous for infants. They increase the risk of suffocation and Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). Stick to fitted sheets and wearable blankets for safe sleep. These are hard to resist through, how cute is this.

Wearable Breast Pump A wearable breast pump is a game-changer for breastfeeding moms. Even if you’re unsure about breastfeeding, starting with a manual pump can be a wise choice. It provides flexibility and convenience, allowing you to pump on-the-go or while multitasking. I always go with Medela for my pumps, this is a good one if you decide you need it.

Diaper Pail A diaper pail is not essential for managing the endless stream of dirty diapers, but it does make it easier. It keeps odors contained and makes diaper disposal more convenient, saving you from multiple trips to the trash. If you need one, I prefer Dekkor to Diaper Genie!

Baby Proofing Items As your baby becomes mobile, baby proofing items are crucial for ensuring their safety. From outlet covers to cabinet locks, these items help protect your little explorer from potential hazards around the home. You can get these later, when the baby is on the move. We moved houses several times, this is the one we bought over and over.

Crib Mobile A crib mobile is not just a decorative piece; it can also soothe and entertain your baby. Choose a mobile with bright colors and engaging shapes to stimulate your baby’s visual and cognitive development. They are not needed, but a nice to have item. I used them, but usually not until month 3 or so. Something simple like this is great.

Sterilizer A sterilizer is a must-have for keeping bottles, pacifiers, and other feeding accessories clean and germ-free. It saves time and ensures that your baby’s items are safe for use. This is the best one from reviews, but I never used this.

Bottle Warmer A bottle warmer is a convenient tool for quickly and evenly heating milk or formula. It takes the guesswork out of temperature control and ensures your baby’s bottle is always just right. I used mine maybe once or twice, this is the one we had.

Baby Food Machines and Accessories When your baby is ready for solids, baby food machines and accessories can make the process easier. They allow you to prepare fresh, nutritious meals tailored to your baby’s needs, saving time and money. But you don’t really need one, because cooking and using your regular blender is the same thing. This is what a food maker is, but I did not use this. I don’t have that kind of counter space, and it is kind of expensive for what it is? I don’t know, maybe that’s just me. It could be great for you!

Nice-to-Have But Not Essential

Diaper Caddy Cart A diaper caddy cart is great for organizing and transporting diapering essentials around your home. It keeps everything within reach and makes diaper changes more efficient, especially during late-night emergencies.

Diaper Cream Applicator Tool A diaper cream applicator tool helps apply ointment smoothly and evenly, reducing mess and minimizing skin contact. It’s a handy addition for maintaining your baby’s comfort and hygiene. These are really popular, but I just used my finger!

Hiking Baby Carrier For active parents, a hiking baby carrier is a fantastic investment. It allows you to enjoy outdoor adventures with your baby, providing comfort and support for both you and your little one. But you do not need one right away!

Baby Toys or Stuffed Animals While not essential, baby toys and stuffed animals are wonderful for stimulating your baby’s senses and encouraging play. Choose safe, age-appropriate toys that promote development and engage your baby’s curiosity. I like these baby toys here.

Baby Mittens Baby mittens are useful for preventing your baby from scratching their delicate skin. They’re especially helpful during the newborn stage when babies are prone to sudden movements. But you can also use socks on the hands, or get th onesies that have the hand covering too.

Baby Hangers Baby hangers are perfect for keeping your baby’s wardrobe organized, but you don’t need them right away. Most clothes aren’t hanging up until the baby is older.

Baby Shoes Though not necessary in the early months, baby shoes are adorable additions to your baby’s outfits. Opt for soft-soled shoes that provide comfort and flexibility as your baby starts to explore their surroundings. You can buy these later, so you don’t need to add to the baby registry.
