Outdoor Easter Activities for the Whole Family
When my kids woke up last Easter morning, they raced downstairs in a flurry of excitement, practically bursting at the seams to see what surprises awaited them.
But instead of just a traditional egg hunt, I had a plan to make the entire day filled with outdoor fun and bonding moments.
With a basket full of ideas, and a few clever additions, we created memories that I know we’ll all cherish for years to come.
If you’re looking for a way to take your Easter beyond just candy-filled eggs and want to keep your kids engaged and active, these outdoor Easter activities will do the trick!

Easter Activities For The Family
1. Egg and Spoon Race
One of our absolute favorites is the classic Egg and Spoon Race! It’s simple, competitive, and so much fun to watch the kids (and adults) wobble their way to the finish line.
All you need is a set of wooden spoons and plastic eggs that won’t break if they tumble over.
Add a twist by making everyone hop like a bunny to the finish line or balance the spoon on one finger for an added challenge. It’s the perfect game to get the whole family laughing together.
2. Easter Scavenger Hunt
This one was a huge hit last year! Instead of a basic egg hunt, create an Easter scavenger hunt around your yard or local park.
Give each child a list of clues that lead them to different locations. For a creative twist, hide Easter-themed toys like bunnies, chicks, or little lambs instead of just eggs.
I found that adding these little surprises made the hunt more engaging for my older kids too. And if you’re feeling extra creative, include small personalized Easter baskets filled with goodies as their final prize.
3. Bunny Hop Sack Race
Who doesn’t love a good ol’ fashioned sack race? Swap out the typical burlap sacks for some bunny-themed race sacks, and watch as everyone (even grandpa!) channels their inner bunny.
Line up a starting point, and don’t forget to cheer everyone on as they “hop” to the finish line.
This activity is great for large family gatherings because everyone can get involved, and it makes for some pretty hilarious family photos.
4. Egg Toss Challenge
If you’re looking for something that’ll get the teens excited too, try an Egg Toss Challenge.
Choose some washable plastic Easter eggs, fill them with water, and pair everyone up.
Have each pair toss the egg back and forth, taking a step back with each successful catch. The last pair standing with an unbroken egg wins! It’s a fun way to end the afternoon and cool down, especially on a warmer spring day.
5. Easter Obstacle Course
This activity was born out of necessity one year when my kids’ sugar-high needed an outlet! Use whatever you have on hand—cones, pool noodles, jump ropes, and more—to create an obstacle course in the backyard.
Incorporate Easter themes by adding colorful bunny ears that they have to put on before hopping through hoops or carrying a basket full of eggs without dropping them.
My kids had so much fun racing each other, and it turned out to be a great way to burn off some of that chocolate bunny energy.
6. Egg Decorating Station
If you have some downtime between active games, set up an egg decorating station outside.
Use non-toxic washable markers or paint kits to let the kids get creative. Place everything on a large picnic blanket, and let them take their time designing their very own Easter eggs.
It’s a relaxing way to wind down the day, and the best part is, no worries about a mess indoors!
Wrapping Up the Day
As the sun began to set, we all sat down on a big blanket in the backyard and opened up a few of the Easter storybooks I’d stashed in their baskets.
We shared our favorite moments of the day and laughed about all the near-egg-tumbles and surprise twists.
These small but meaningful activities added so much joy to our Easter celebration, and I know that when they look back, they’ll remember more than just candy—these are the days that build family bonds and traditions.
Bottom Line
So, if you’re looking to create a memorable Easter celebration this year, give a few of these outdoor activities a try. With just a little planning (and a few key supplies), you’ll be sure to make it a day your family will talk about for years to come!
